I already suggested this program to a couple of people, it's called xfire and it is basically a messenger program(such as msn, aim, etc) only with a gaming twist (shows people what games your playing) and it has a group chat function (you can choose to use voice chat in here) which can basically be like ventrilo and to top it off its free .
